I volunteered at the Tier Heim KOKUA Annex Rehabilitation Center, an organization that rescues dogs from difficult and often life-threatening situations, such as abuse, neglect, abandonment, and animals facing euthanasia in shelters.

I initially decided to volunteer because I am a big dog lover and I wanted hands-on experience working with animals. I discussed how I could contribute with my father, and he helped connect me with Tier Heim KOKUA. I volunteered once a week for several months, and during that time I came to care deeply for all of the dogs at the center.

During my time there, I helped with daily tasks such as walking the dogs and cleaning their rooms to maintain a safe and comfortable environment. I also participated in donation activities, including going out to Harajuku to hold signs and raise awareness for the organization.

Some of the dogs were seniors, some were weak or injured, and I learned that a few of them passed away not long after my time with them. Although it was heartbreaking, I felt grateful that I could spend time walking them, comforting them, and helping make their final days a little more peaceful.

Overall, volunteering at Tier Heim KOKUA was a meaningful experience that taught me compassion, responsibility, and the importance of supporting vulnerable animals who rely on people for their safety and well-being.
